<B>1889 $3 MS64 PCGS.</B></I> The three dollar gold series ended in 1889 with a circulation strike mintage of 2,300 coins. Today, Mint State coins are elusive. Both sides of this near-Gem example are awash in potent luster, and each yields a delicate mix of apricot-gold and grayish-green patina. An impressive strike translates into sharp definition on the design elements, further enhancing the coin's great eye appeal. A few minor handling marks keep from full Gem status.
