<B>1889 $3 MS61 NGC.</B></I> The 1889 was the last year of the three dollar gold series, and was struck to the tune of 2,300 circulation strikes, many of which were never released. Today, Mint State coins are elusive (David Bowers, 2005). The brass-gold, surfaces of this MS61 example exhibit pronounced contrast when the coin is rotated under a light source, and the design elements are sharply struck, which is typical for the issue.
