1889<25C> PR66 Cameo PCGS. Beautiful luster emanates from beneath the moderate indigo-blue patination that covers both sides. Lovers of attractively toned coins can get the best of both worlds in this coin, which has deeper toning than is usually seen on Cameo-designated coins. But here the designation is entirely appropriate, as there is ample mint frost visible on the devices, even though they share the same color palette as the fields. This issue is one of the string of low-mintage minor silver coins from 1879 to 1890 that occurred as the Philadelphia Mint concentrated on churning out vast quantities of Morgan dollars. In the case of the 1889 quarter, only 12,000 business strikes were produced, putting added pressure on the proof production of 711 pieces. Population: 6 in 66 Cameo, 2 finer (6/06).
