1889<25C> MS67 NGC. Between 1879 and 1889, the Philadelphia Mint struck only token productions of quarters. The reason for this was that Mint resources were consumed by silver dollar coinage, compelled by the Bland-Allison Act. Only 12,000 quarters were struck in 1889, along with 711 proofs. Fortunately for today's collectors, the numismatic value of the issue was contemporaneously recognized, and a number of high grade pieces, such as the present Superb Gem, have survived. This well struck and attractively preserved example is fully lustrous and essentially brilliant.
