Souvenir pink granite cut, from the Texas State Capitol Dedication, May14-19, 1888. Marked with original paper tag from A.J Jernigan, Austin Marble Works. Granite Mountain quarries, located in Marble Falls, donated the Texas pink granite for the construction of the Capitol in exchange for a rail line to be built to the quarries. This resulted in the extension of a narrow-gauge railroad from Austin to Marble Falls. Around 4000 train car loads of Texas pink granite were transported from Marble Falls to Austin to build the State Capitol. This souvenir commemorative granite cut measures approximately 1.5" x 1.75" x 2.75"
