1888-S$1 MS65 PCGS. The 1888-S has risen and fallen in popularity as well as perceived rarity as coins were released from the mint in San Francisco, and alternately as those coins were absorbed by collectors. The last release was from the Redfield Hoard, but very few high grade pieces (according to today's standards) came from LaVere Redfield's holdings. According to the January Population Report, only 165 Gems have been graded by that firm with 18 pieces finer. This is a very impressive, high grade coin that is a sparkling, one-sided prooflike. The obverse fields glitter with reflectivity and each side is essentially brilliant with a light accent of golden around the margins. Fully struck in all areas.
From The Dr. Volker Dube Collection. Lot:7249
