<B>1888<$3> MS66 PCGS.</B></I> This is an exceptional example of the date. Even though 1888 threes are not rare in Mint State grades, they are seldom encountered at the highest grade levels. In fact, the PCGS population data shows that only two finer pieces have been certified. This example has vibrant pinkish-gold color with frosty luster on both sides. All of the design elements are boldly defined with the sole exception of the ribbon bow on the reverse. All business strikes of this date were coined from a doubled obverse die, with doubling visible at the tops of UNITED. Population: 26 in 66, 2 finer (9/06).
