1888 $3 MS65 PCGS. This sharply struck Gem features refreshingly clean surfaces. Shimmering luster bathes the pumpkin-gold fields and devices. A few trivial light golden-brown freckles are noted upon magnification. UNITED is nicely die doubled, a feature that distinguishes the mere 5,000 business strikes from the even rarer proofs.
The three dollar and one dollar gold pieces had similar designs, and both series ended in 1889. The dollar gold denomination was more popular with contemporary collectors, perhaps because of the lower face value. Mintages of the three dollar denomination actually declined between 1887 and 1889, while gold dollar production climbed during the same period. Population: 70 in 65, 28 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
