1888 $3 MS65 PCGS. This is a coin of superlative quality, which quickly becomes apparent when it is examined closely. Few gold coins from the 1880s can boast such vibrant luster, which generates a shimmering halo effect on both sides. The lovely, light honey-gold toning yields to even lighter shades of creamy-pink and mint-green near the peripheries. Despite a low mintage of 5,000 pieces, the 1888 is one of the most common dates in the three dollar gold series. Being the penultimate issue probably helped this date to be saved in sufficient quantities to avoid becoming a rarity. Also, by the late 1880s the number of coin collectors in America had increased substantially, compared to the early years of the series. Population: 70 in 65, 28 finer (11/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
