<B>1887-S S$1 MS66 PCGS.</B></I> Despite a respectable mintage of more than 1.7 million pieces, this S-mint issue is elusive above MS64. The reverse is lightly toned, with reddish-golden iridescence at the borders. The obverse exhibits a wider distribution of similar colors, but deeper in hue. As befits a cartwheel from the California branch mint, the features exhibit needle-sharp delineation that brings up every last detail of the central highpoints. Both sides are largely devoid of contact marks and other distractions. This richly frosted dollar would convert even the most ardent critic into a collector of Morgans.
