1887-S S$1 MS65 PCGS. The 1887-S was produced in modest numbers for a Morgan Dollar, and the issue was once considered to be a great rarity in Mint State. While it is true that many of the 1.7 million coins produced entered circulation in the 19th century, enough bags emerged from the San Francisco Mint beginning in the early 1940s to meet collector demand through the end of the following decade. After that time, the only additional influx of Mint State '87-S Dollars into the numismatic market came with the dispersal of the Redfield estate. Today, while no longer a rarity in Mint State, the 1887-S remains elusive as a Gem. This is a solidly graded example whose richly frosted surfaces display a dominant ice-white sheen. A few swirls of faint iridescence are seen here and there, but the surfaces are free of both singularly distracting bagmarks and bothersome striking incompleteness. Rollermarks (as produced) on Liberty's chin are noted solely for accuracy. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
