Light bagmarks are almost forgotten given the excellent detail from a strong strike, the surfaces show sharp silver color with extra flashy fields supporting the lightly frosted devices. In the years when silver dollar production was King, the average set of coining dies lasted about 100,000 to 150,000 strikes, varying by mint, with Carson City's die life the lowest. Prooflikes or deep mirror prooflikes are believed to be from the first hundred to few hundred strikes on new dies before the surface of the die was abraded to form standard mint frost or "luster." Scarce in deep mirror condition. (#97181)
DCT Collection
