1887 Prang's Aquarelle Print Baseball Lithograph
1887 Prang's Aquarelle Print Baseball Lithograph. German immigrant Louis Prang is widely considered to be the most prolific and influential publisher of American chromolithographs, issuing about 800 art prints during his lifetime on themes as varied as the Civil War, Italian Masters and wildlife scenes. Here we find the image considered to be his most important and desirable, offering a delightful view into the nineteenth century game. This is no generic scene, incidentally. That's Cap Anson sitting cross-legged on the bench in the foreground, his Chicago White Stockings at bat. Period details such as the early "mitt" on the catcher's left hand and the umpire's strike counter are found upon closer observation. A magical trip back in time to professional baseball twelve decades ago. Minor surface wear at bottom corners does little to detract, and the 16x22" print finds itself in wonderfully strong condition otherwise, with a bend at the top right corner the only other issue worth a mention. A true treasure for serious collectors of the nineteenth century game.

Shipping: Framed - without Glass, Small (view shipping information)
