Three-Cent Nickels 1887 PCGS graded Mint State 65. <b>Bright silvery white luster greets the eye from this coin's superb surfaces. A scarce issue, only 5,000 business strikes were produced. Under political pressure from America's nickel-mining interests, the mint was ordered to strike three-cent pieces beginning in 1865 made from an alloy of 75% copper and 25% nickel. (Nickel, being the dominant metal of the two, imposes its hue to the resulting alloy.) Except at the beginning, 1865-70, coinage never amounted to more than token numbers, by the 1880s rarely topping 50,000.</b> <p align="center">Superior Galleries was founded in 1929 and has been a leader in
