<B>1887 G$1 PR64 Cameo PCGS.</B></I> Mintages of proof gold dollars reached substantial levels, with over 1,000 coined each year from 1884 to 1889. In 1887, the mintage was 1,043 proofs. Those mintages gave contemporary collectors an opportunity to acquire a gold proof at a modest price level, when most could not afford more than a dollar or two per coin for their collections. Similarly, enough survive today that 21st century collectors have the same opportunity. This piece has delightful lemon-yellow color with traces of orange toning, especially on the reverse.
