1887 25C MS66 NGC. Although mintages of dimes reached
1887<25C> MS66 NGC. Although mintages of dimes reached a then-record level of more than 11 million pieces, the production of quarters was limited to 10,000 business strikes and 710 proofs. Quarters and halves had small mintages because of the Bland-Allison act, which compelled the Philadelphia Mint to produce more than 20 million silver dollars in 1887. Shrewd numismatists of the era set aside quantities of quarters and halves, but these are nonetheless elusive today in all grades. This lustrous Premium Gem has light tan toning and remarkably unabraded fields and devices. The strike is pleasing on the major devices, and somewhat soft only on the right side stars. Census: 16 in 66, 13 finer (7/06).
