1887 $2 1/2 MS65 Prooflike NGC. Liberty Head quarter eagles minted during the decade of the 1880s were all low-mintage affairs, ranging from a low of 640 coins produced in 1881 to a high of 17,600 coins struck in 1889. Apparently there was little demand for the quarter eagles during this period. In 1887, just 6,160 of these quarter eagles were coined, and it is considered a scarce date in all grades. This MS65 Prooflike coin and another certified as MS66 are the two finest coins graded by NGC, and PCGS has not graded a single Gem representative (11/06). Both sides are sharply struck with virtually full design details as they appeared in the dies. The surfaces have deeply mirrored fields that are nearly equal to some proof examples. This is a rich orange-gold example with exceptional aesthetic appeal.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
