1886-S S$1 MS66 PCGS.
1886-S S$1 MS66 PCGS.<p>What most collectors immediately think of when they hear "1886-S" are the heavily bagmarked coins that were dropped on the market 25 years ago from the holdings of LaVere Redfield. Grading standards were far from formalized at the time, and many of those coins were called "Gem BU;" but, of course, very few would measure up to the strict grading standards that are in place today. This coin is very likely not from Redfield's multi-bag holdings of 1886-S Dollars. The cheek of Liberty is extraordinarily clean and the coin is heavily frosted with a glimmer of semi-prooflikeness in the fields. Brilliant throughout, the striking details are fully defined in all areas. A high-end example of this popular issue. Population: 23 in 66, 4 finer (11/01).From the Mike Casper Collection.
