1886-S S$1 MS66 NGC. Morgan Dollar production at the San Francisco Mint fell below 1 million coins f
1886-S S$1 MS66 NGC. Morgan Dollar production at the San Francisco Mint fell below 1 million coins for the first time in 1886. A total of only 750,000 pieces were produced, with both circulated and Mint State survivors being on the scarce side for the series. Since most Uncirculated '86-S Dollars grade no finer than MS64, the premium quality Gem that we are offering in this lot is an undeniable condition rarity. The strike is sharp in most areas, but we note slight incompleteness of detail over the central obverse highpoint and some rollermarks (as produced) that did not strike out on Liberty's cheek. The otherwise silver-gray surfaces exhibit pleasing, mottled, olive-copper iridescence at the denticles. A few shallow ticks in the obverse field below Liberty's chin are the only noticeable abrasions. Population: just eight in MS66, with only one finer (10/02).From the Trane Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
