1886-S<S$1> MS65 NGC. Only 750,000 pieces were struck of the 1886-S, but several bags were included in LaVere Redfield's vast holdings of Silver Dollars, thus significantly increasing the availability of this issue in most Mint State grades. However, very few Gems came out of Redfield's hoard of 1+ million coins. This piece has partially reflective mint luster and is colorfully toned with gray and sunset-golden hues throughout. The cheek of Liberty is remarkably clean for this issue with only one tiny abrasion, a small milling mark at the back of the neck that is almost in the hair. An outstanding example of this popular and conditionally challenging Dollar. Population: 79 in 65, 12 finer (3/05).
