1886 S$1 MS68 PCGS. David Bowers (1993) writes that quantities of 1886 dollars were released by the Treasury in the early 1950s and early 1960s. These releases, along with the high original mintage of nearly 20 million pieces, has made the 1886 one of the most common of all Morgan dollars. It is readily available in all grades through MS65; indeed, tens of thousands of 1886 dollars have been certified by PCGS and NGC in grades MS60 through MS65. Even Premium Gems are obtainable with relatively little problem, but MS67 specimens become more challenging. The issue becomes an important condition rarity in MS68, as is apparent from the population data that show only 11 coins graded as such, and none finer.
The MS68 dollar offered here displays marvelous, virtually unimpaired surfaces that emit radiant luster. Wisps of light gold-tan toning occur over portions of the obverse and along the left reverse periphery. A sliver of cobalt-blue and lavender also reside at the lower left obverse border. An excellent strike characterizes the design elements, including nearly full definition in the hair over Liberty's ear and on the eagle's breast feathers. Population: 3 in 68, 0 finer (10/06).

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
