Production of S-mint silver dollars dipped to just 750,000 pieces this year as the Philadelphia and New Orleans mints took over a greater share of the Bland-Allison Act load. Although generally very well produced, Mint State survivors of this issue are most often too heavily abraded to attain Gem status.
