<B>1886 New York vs. Detroit Scorecard.</B></I> The early baseball pioneer, Hall of Famer and owner of the National League's first base hit appears on the cover of this exceedingly rare scorecard issued for a game between O'Rourke's New York Giants and Dan Brouthers's Detroit Wolverines. Each recorded two base hits during this meeting at the first incarnation of the Polo Grounds at the northern edge of Manhattan's Central Park. Also listed as part of the Giants' three to two victory are fellow Hall of Famers Roger Connor, Buck Ewing, John Ward and Mickey Welch. The simple yet gorgeous scorecard is a single 6x7.5" piece of heavy paper folded at center to create a four-page folio. Split along the fold is reinforced with vintage tape, and a half-inch tear at one border and moderate toning must also be noted. Of course these flaws must be forgiven when considering the tremendous scarcity of the piece, which still does present beautifully, as our catalog imagery will attest. They sure don't make them like this anymore...
