<B>1886 G$1 PR66 Cameo NGC.</B></I> NGC and PCGS have certified a total of about 80 1886 proof gold dollars, that had a mintage of 1,016 pieces. Jeff Garrett and Ron Guth (2006) mention that: "Evidence exists that coins from this period were handled very carelessly by Mint employees. Impaired proofs are not uncommon...." Approximately 60 coins have been designated as cameos. The Premium Gem Cameo offered in this lot exhibits rich brass-gold surfaces that assume a stunning gold-on-black contrast when viewed from a direct angle. A well executed strike shows on the design features, and both sides are devoid of mentionable marks.
