<B>1886 5C MS64 NGC.</B></I> David Bowers (2006) says of the 1886 nickel that it "... is generally ranked as the second-rarest Liberty Head nickel in the early series, with 1885 first. However, in Mint State, particularly at the gem level, the 1886 nickel eclipses the 1885 in rarity." A thin veneer of golden-gray patina rests on the lustrous surfaces of this near-Gem specimen, and a sharp strike defines the motifs, including the corn ear and leaves left of the bowknot. Some fine, insignificant hairlines are interspersed with die polish lines in the reverse fields. Census: 54 in 64, 26 finer (6/07).<BR><BR><B>Coin Engraver:</B> Charles E.
