1886 50C PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. The skimpy business str
1886<50C> PR66 Deep Cameo PCGS. The skimpy business strike mintages of Seated Liberty quarters and halves from 1879 to 1890, necessitated by the voluminous government-mandated emissions of Morgan dollars, exerts added pressure on proof strikings from collectors who need a nice example. In the case of the 1886 half dollars, business strikes were coined to the extent of only 5,000 examples, with 886 proofs. Unsurprisingly, a single pair of dies was used to coin both proofs and business strikes. This delightful piece is an unquestioned proof, however, with deeply mirrored fields, highly frosted devices, squared rims, and the deeply impressed details throughout that come from multiple impressions of a proof die. The surfaces offer light champagne-pink patina, with blushes of iridescent blue and russet near the rims. The highest and only PR66 at PCGS (7/06).
