1886 $3 PR63 Cameo PCGS. Frosty devices and glittering
1886 $3 PR63 Cameo PCGS. Frosty devices and glittering fields ensure the proof status of this desirable three dollar gold piece. The strike is needle-sharp, even on the wreath bow, the veins of the cotton leaves, and the highpoints of Liberty's tresses. Splashes of red-orange toning contribute further to the eye appeal. No field imperfections are worthy of discussion, and any numismatist would be proud to own such a commanding specimen. A mere 142 proofs were struck, a number of which were presumably spent by heirs. Karl Stecher, Sr. purchased this piece for $12.00 as lot 1165 in a circa-1940 Barney Bluestone auction. A Barney Bluestone envelope is included, with the notations "1886 $3 Gold Proof 1165 $12.00." Population: 8 in 63 Cameo, 9 finer (1/07).
From The Stecher Collection.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
