<B>1886 $3 MS62 Prooflike NGC.</B></I> According to the Garrett-Guth <I>Encyclopedia of U.S. Gold Coins 1795-1933,</B></I> circulation strikes of this date "were made from a set of Proof dies, making it nearly impossible to tell the two apart." Circulation strikes were struck from dies that were also used to produce proofs, and all circulation strikes were struck using a reverse die with the upright of the 1 between O and L, as well as a diagnostic lumpy area on the lower half of the 1. This bright gold piece has bright, fully reflective surfaces, and contrast that would merit it a cameo designation were it a proof.
