1886 $20 AU55 PCGS.
1886 $20 AU55 PCGS. Like the 1885, which the 1886 is commonly compared to, the 1886 has an impressively low mintage of only 1,000 business strikes. An additional 106 proofs were struck, and similar numbers of pieces are believed extant today of each with 20-22 proofs believed known and 25-30 business strikes in all grades. Surviving 1886 twenties are better spread across the grading spectrum than the 1885 with the greatest number of pieces known in the XF grade range, but not by much when compared to VF or AU numbers. Like the 1885, the fields are bright and reflective, again no doubt because the dies did not have a chance to wear down with only a thousand coins struck. Very sharply defined throughout, as most other examples are of this date, each side displays a strong golden-orange coloration with an even reddish overlay of patina. Extensively abraded with numerous tiny marks on each side, the only flaw that is really worthy of individual mention is a long, shallow abrasion under the bun of Liberty's hair. Probably a lower Condition Census coin at this quality level. Population: 4 in 55, 5 finer (10/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
