<B>1885-S $20 MS64 PCGS.</B></I> Once the California gold rush began in earnest, it wasn't long before the bulk of double eagle production became the responsibility of the newly opened San Francisco Mint. By 1856 the mintage of S-mint twenties exceeded one million pieces and output continued at a frantic pace throughout the Civil War. It is therefore extremely curious that no double eagles were struck in San Francisco in the year 1886. Offered here is a second Choice representative from the previous year.
