First edition, first printing of ''Adventures of Huckleberry Finn'' by Mark Twain, with illustrations by E.W. Kimble. New York: Charles L. Webster and Co.: 1885. Of this beloved classic that became the wellspring of American literary fiction, Hemingway said of it, ''All modern American literature comes from just one book by Mark Twain called 'Huckleberry Finn.''' All first edition, first print points present including: (1) The title page is a cancel (2) Copyright is listed as 1884 on the title page verso. (3) the Chapter 6 heading reads ''decided'' rather than ''decides'' on page 9; (4) ''Him and another man'' is listed incorrectly on the table of contents; (5) page 57, 11 lines from bottom, reads: ''with the was'' instead of ''with the saw''; (6) ''Heliotype Printing Co.'' imprint is present on frontis as is tablecloth underneath the bust of Twain; (7) on page 155, the second ''5'' of the pagination is in a different font; (8) The ''l'' is missing in ''Col.'' and the letter ''B'' is broken on line 7 on page 143; (9) Page 283 is a cancel; (10) Final leaf is a blank; (11) The tablecloth under a bust of Mark Twain is plainly visible in the frontispiece photograph. Measures 7'' x 8.25''. Occasional foxing and toning within. Slightly cocked with wear to cloth at front hinge, else near fine condition.
