<B>1885 $2 1/2 --Altered Surfaces--ANACS. AU58 Details.</B></I> The 1885 quarter eagle has a mintage of just 800 business strikes and 87 proofs. These mintages are similar to the 1885 double eagle, which sells for approximately ten times the price of its smaller denomination counterpart. This exactingly struck example has only a whisper of friction on the wingtips, eyebrow, and the hair above the ear. The obverse field has been lightly oiled to suggest full luster.
