1885 1C PR66 Red PCGS. Although the 1885 Indian Head c
1885 1C PR66 Red PCGS. Although the 1885 Indian Head cent had a relatively high proof mintage (3,790 pieces), coins with fully red surfaces are difficult to come by, as pointed out by David Bowers (2006): " ... the majority of this issue is found with a deep, even, brown color (sometimes with vivid blue toning). It is very difficult to find full red examples ... ." The population/census data bear out Bowers' assertion: PCGS and NGC, while having certified about 825 1885 proofs, have seen only 50 or so full red examples. The Premium Gem Red specimen offered here is a refreshing exception, in that it exhibits gorgeous copper-gold surfaces that are devoid of mentionable contact marks or carbon flecks. Moreover, a well executed strike emboldens the design features, including sharp definition on the father ends and on all four diamonds. These attributes combine to generate outstanding eye appeal. Population: 8 in 66 Red, 3 finer (3/07).

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
