1885 10C PR68 NGC. Olive-blue highlights around the obverse periphery and throughout the reverse enl
1885 10C PR68 NGC. Olive-blue highlights around the obverse periphery and throughout the reverse enliven the otherwise antique-copper appearance of those areas. The center of the obverse, however, is toned in reddish-gray hues. Both sides reveal the expected reflectivity in the fields at direct angles of observation, and the razor sharp strike also confirms this coin as a proof. Like the 1884 (to which it compares favorably in terms of rarity), the 1885 is an otherwise common date that becomes decidedly rare at the finer levels of Superb Gem preservation. We are only aware of one other specimen striking of the latter date that can compare to this coin, and that is the example that Bowers and Merena sold in 1998 as part of the Craig M. Morgan, M.D. Collection. Combined NGC and PCGS Population: 2 in 68, with none finer at either grading service (1/03).From the Philip Kaufman Collection. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. On occasion eBay live bid software cannot keep up with the pace of the auctions where 4-5 lots per minute can hammer down, so we recommend that you place a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
