1884-S S$1 MS64 PCGS.
1884-S S$1 MS64 PCGS. As stated above, the 1884-S was a heavily circulated coin. Much like the 1892-S, this issue is in fairly ready supply in XF to AU condition and only at the Uncirculated level is the true rarity of the '84-S apparent. Our records indicate that we have only sold three MS64 examples of this key issue in the past ten years. We have never handled a Gem, and none have even been offered for public sale since late 1999. This is a truly exceptional coin. The surfaces are suggestive of an 1881-S, with its bright mint frost and flashy, semi-prooflike finish in the obverse fields--cover up the date, and 9 out of 10 dollar collectors would identify this piece as an earlier S-mint. Fully struck also with notably strong definition over Liberty's ear. There are only the slightest abrasions present on either side; and in fact, the most obvious surface imperfection is a short luster graze just in front of Liberty's ear lobe. Mostly brilliant, there is just the lightest touch of golden patina around the margins on each side. Simply outstanding quality, this is a rare opportunity for the advanced collector of Morgan dollars to add this key issue to their collection. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder.
