1884-S S$1 MS63 NGC.
1884-S S$1 MS63 NGC. Something unusual occurred in San Francisco in 1884: almost the entire mintage of 3.2 million silver dollars produced in that mint were dropped into circulation. With most Morgan dollar issues, large quantities of the original production run were bagged after minting and relegated to storage, many not seeing the light of day again until 1962-64. As a result, very few 1884-S dollars were set aside in Uncirculated condition and it is one of the "Big 5" Morgan dollars for the advanced collector. This is a shimmering, lustrous example that has lovely mint frost over each side. The devices are sharply defined, and the grade is derived from a milling mark that crosses Liberty's jawline and throat and a scrape between the eagle's head and WE in the motto above. These are certainly minor flaws on a coin that all too often seems to come "struck in AU." Population: 42 in 63, 11 finer (7/03). Important notice: Heritage usually auctions material at the rate of 200-250 lots per hour. On some occasions eBay Live bid software or the Internet may not be able to keep up with the pace of the auction. We recommend placing a realistic absentee bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Occasionally the auctioneer may eliminate or reject an eBay Live bid, and the auctioneer may also reopen a lot after the close of the eBay live bidding (usually because we missed an audience bid), and may reject your bid even if it shows you as the winning bidder. By bidding via eBay Live, you agree that Heritage may award the lot to another bidder at its sole discretion under the circumstances described above or any other reasonable circumstances. Also please note that all Heritage lots purchased through eBay Live carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions before you bid.
