1884<S$1> MS67 NGC. Like the preceding years, mintage of Morgan Dollars in 1884 reached exceptional numbers. Over 14 million silver dollars were coined in Philadelphia. Thanks to the Bland-Allison Act, silver dollars were about the only silver coins produced in 1884. Philadelphia coined extremely small quantities of subsidiary silver coinage in 1884. Aside from a half-million dimes struck in San Francisco, the branch mints coined only silver dollars and gold issues during the year. The 1884 Morgan Dollar is available in nearly any desired grade, although Superb Gem examples are quite elusive. And the collector can just about forget about higher grades, for just one finer example has been graded, by PCGS. Sharply struck with fully brilliant silver surfaces and outstanding satin luster. Only a few trivial contact marks can be seen on either side. Exceptionally attractive and highly desirable. Population: 24 in 67, 0 finer (9/05).
From The Jack Lee Collection, III
