With 5,275 minted as a business strike, the 1884 has the lowest mintage in the 1879-89 set of low mintage dates. This fascinating coin is so close to gem quality we think it may be sent back to one of the main services for evaluation. The fields are prooflike; devices are frosty; toning is just forming at the rim. The color and contrast this gives amounts to beauty far in advance of the modest MS64 determination by PCGS. But you judge for yourself.
