1884-CC S$1 MS67 NGC. Prior to the Treasury Department releases of the early to mid 1960s, the 1884-CC was considered to be a rare coin. After 1964, however, 962,638 Silver Dollars of this date, or 84.7% of the original mintage of 1.1 million coins, were still in government holdings. Once these coins were dispersed through the General Services Administration, the '84-CC became common in Mint State. On the other hand, the conditions in which Carson City Mint Morgans were transported and stored means that Superb quality survivors are few and far between in today's market. Whereas the typical '84-CC Dollar is apt to display light, moderate, and/or heavy bagmarks, the present Superb Gem is virtually devoid of such distractions. The sharp strike is free of criticism, and the frosty-white surfaces reveal a few spindly die cracks (as produced) at the upper obverse and reverse borders. Population: 26 in 67, 0 finer (7/02).
