1884 3CN PR68 PCGS. A crisply struck and satiny Su
1884 3CN PR68 PCGS. A crisply struck and satiny Superb Gem, delicately toned in tan and steel-blue hues. Portions of the wreath ribbon are attenuated by die polish, as made and a characteristic often encountered on proofs of this type. A pristine specimen, one of just 5,642 Three Cent Nickels struck in 1884. High mintages of Shield and Liberty Nickels made the Three Cent denomination unnecessary, and it was discontinued a few years later. At the lofty PR68 level, PCGS has certified just two pieces, and only a single PR68 Cameo example has achieved a finer grade. As of (1/05), PCGS has not encapsulated any specimens of any date as PR69 or PR68 Deep Cameo.
From the Bruce Scher #1 All-Time PCGS Registry Set. Lot:4045
