1884 $3 MS62 PCGS. David Bowers (2005) suggests that "It is quite likely that many of the 1,000 pieces coined (circulation strikes) remained in the Mint and were later melted," accounting for the rarity of the issue. Peach-gold surfaces on this MS62 example display occasional blushes of reddish-gold at the peripheries. The design elements are sharply struck and mildly frosted, yielding a pleasing contrast with semi-prooflike fields. A few minor handling marks scattered about limit the grade. Gorgeous for the grade designation!
From The DAX Collection.

Coin Engraver: James B.
