1884 1C MS65 Red PCGS. In an effort to obtain Cent planchets at a more favorable rate, the Mint switched suppliers in 1884 from Benedick and Burnham Mfg. Co. to Brown Brother Mfg. Co. After a relatively short period of time, Brown Brothers were also dropped, presumably because they were unable to supply planchets of high enough quality. Fortunately, the present 1884 Cent was struck on a properly alloyed planchet that retains full mint luster in orange-red shades. The color is a little more vibrant on the reverse, but both sides are sharply struck in all areas. Carefully and originally preserved, as one should expect for the MS65 Red designation, with only a few faint carbon flecks in the reverse field. From the Joseph P. Gorrell Collection.
