1883 T$1 PR65 PCGS. The final collectible issue in the Trade Dollar series, the 1883 was produced solely in proof format. While some of the 979 pieces originally produced may have been melted, this issue is generally obtainable in today's hobby. The 1883 is conditionally scarce, however, and locating a survivor does not always mean locating a Gem. Indeed, 20-25 survivors are impaired enough to grade lower than PR60 (per Bowers, 1993). Not so the present specimen. The surfaces are silent on the subject of distracting hairlines, and there are also no contact marks or unsightly toning spots to report. Pinpoint striking definition is uncommon for the issue, but it is a feature that both sides of this coin possess. Fully original toning envelops both sides in lavender-gray shades that yield to champagne-apricot and electric-blue undertones. No important auction would be complete without the inclusion of a Gem 1883 Trade Dollar. Important notice: We expect to be auctioning lots at the rate of 200-250 per hour. Sometimes eBay Premier live bid software cannot keep up with that pace, so we strongly recommend that you place a realistic proxy bid now as insurance to avoid disappointment. Also please note that all Heritage/CAA lots purchased through eBay Premier carry a 20% Buyer's Premium. Please make sure you read the Terms and Conditions.
