1883-S S$1 MS65 ANACS. While more than 6 million pieces were struck of the 1883-S dollar, it is likely that several million pieces were melted, which would account for the scarcity of this issue in modern years. The 1883-S is actually probably scarcer than generally considered in Mint State. The new Bowers-Dannreuther book on dollars states it this way: "Years ago, many 'Uncirculated' pieces were advertised, and to a casual observer of old-time listings, the 1883-S might seem common at this level. However, today most specialists believe that such pieces were for the most part 'sliders,' coins close to Mint State, but short of the mark." This piece has bright, frosted mint frost that is overlaid by deep shades of speckled lilac, golden, and rose. Sharply struck as well.

Shipping: Coin/Currency (view shipping information)
