1883-S S$1 MS63 PCGS. In his book Silver Dollars
1883-S<S$1> MS63 PCGS. In his book Silver Dollars and Trade Dollars of the United States, Bowers writes that the 1883-S dollar is scarce in Uncirculated grades, and is among the more elusive of the San Francisco issues. He states: "Without doubt, and having no close challengers, the 1883-S is far rarer in Mint State than any other S-Mint Morgan dollar from 1878 to 1883." This example possesses bright lustrous surfaces that display an occasional wisp of light tan color, especially on the reverse. The design elements are well impressed, save for a hint of softness on the hair above Liberty's ear. A few minute marks are noted on Liberty's cheek and in the left (facing) obverses field.
