1883-S $20 MS64 PCGS. While even minimal Mint State pieces sell for only a small premium, anything finer is elusive; most examples entered commercial channels, either domestic or international, and those pieces that were not worn suffered numerous abrasions. Compared to such examples, the near-Gem offered here is a refreshing change of pace. The surfaces are predominantly yellow-orange with a few areas of deeper copper shading evident at the reverse margins. The central details are crisp, and while the luster is slightly soft, the overall effect is pleasing. The few marks evident on each side are scattered and hardly distracting, though the cumulative effect keeps this coin from the Gem category. That fact is hardly an indictment of the piece, however, since no finer coin is known to either NGC or PCGS (4/07). A great opportunity for the discerning Type Three double eagle collector.

Shipping: Coins & Currency (view shipping information)
