<B>1883 S$1 Hawaii Dollar PR63 NGC.</B></I> According to Breen, six proof sets were struck in September 1883, and an additional 20 sets were produced in 1884 from the original proof 1883 dies. This tiny emission makes the proof 1883 Hawaii dollar as rare as proof double eagles from the same era. The one-year type status of the proof Hawaii dollar (or Akahi Dala) makes it all the more desirable. This intricately struck specimen has lightly frosted devices and pleasing field reflectivity. Faint hairlines limit the numerical grade, but the eye appeal is impressive for the PR63 level, and the rarity of the proof Akahi Dala is such that years may pass before another example crosses the auction block.
