<B>1883 "Official Rules for Playing Baseball" by Henry Chadwick.</B></I> Though fully entitled, "The People's Handbook Series, The Reliable Book of Outdoor Games Containing Official Rules for Playing Baseball, Foot Ball, Cricket, Lacrosse, Tennis, Croquet, Etc.," baseball scholars will desire this small paperback volume for the Hall of Fame pioneer's views on the early game of baseball in which the author was so instrumental. A wonderful image of a nineteenth century batter appears on the cover, which presents a degree of paper loss at bottom corners. Thankfully, the seventeen pages addressing baseball remain the strongest in the book, with the last fourteen of the sixty-four page volume showing damage or paper loss. In light of the rarity and historical importance of the publication, however, certain condition flaws must be forgiven.
