Scarce printed letter produced by The Irish World newspaper New York and sent to Irish Americans in an attempt to raise funds for the defence of Patrick O'Donnell of Gweedore, Co. Donegal who was due to go on trial for the killing of the former 'Invincible' leader James Carey. Carey had given evidence against his fellow 'Invincibles' during the Phoenix Park Murders trial and had attempted to flee to South Africa under an assumed name, however on the journey O'Donnell became aware of his true identity and killed him. An extremely interesting historical piece complete with original envelope addressed to "J. Dickson, Mansfield, O[hio]"
