<B>1883 G$1 PR67 Ultra Cameo NGC.</B></I> A lovely and luscious type coin, boasting superlative black-on-gold contrast between the glassy, profoundly deep fields and the thickly frosted, butter-yellow devices. Proof mintages "kicked it up a notch" as the series approached its close in 1889, and the 1883 proof production lies on the cusp of that increase--more than 1882's emission of 125 pieces, but far less than 1884's total of more than 1,000 proofs. Although many 1883 proofs are found with a repunched 3 in the date, this piece shows no sign of repunching.
